Figurative Sculpture

The cat sculpture is based on a popular image on the internet of a photoshopped cat that looks like it is coughing or puking, also known as the coughing cat. It was popularized by being used as a "meme", an image used for the purpose of being funny and shared around.

It was challenging to turn a 2D image to a three-dimentional sculpture. In the original image, the cat is standing on a set of stairs, but as I didn't want to recreate the stairs, I made a big fish for the cat to stand on in replacement of the stairs. I believe this duo created a better balance and story than the stairs.

The cat is mainly painted with underglazes, except for the eyes, nose and mouth, which has a layer of clear glaze that was glazed after bisque fire. The fish has a mix of underglazes, clear glaze and other glaze for layering to create the more dead color to it.
