Hi, I'm Katie

I started studying art in 2017 at Edvard Munch high school in Oslo, Norway. I am currently on my first year of my Masters of Art in Society at Oslo Metropolitan University. I took my Bachelor's degree at the same university, studying Specialized Teacher Training in Art, Design and Crafts. During my BA I took an exchange semester in Hong Kong at The Education University of Hong Kong where I studied drawing, ceramics, photography and painting.

Besides studying, I also work at the Oslo Transport Museum. My main contributions at the museum is social media management and being a creative collaborator by working with the museum's gift shop.

My dream is to actively work with pupils and to use art as a way to educate my students. I wish to show my students the value of art in the everyday life and how art is more than just drawing on a piece of paper.

Urban life and public transport has a special place in my heart and you can often see this being expressed through my artworks. You can read more about this further down this page.

My Love for Public Transport

Growing up in Oslo, I became quite fond of our blue trams. Oslo has three main transportations: the bus, the metro and the tram. As per 2021, there are three different trams traveling through the veins of our capital city. Read more about it further down.

There's SL-18, the newest model which just started its journey in our city in 2021, which was postponed from its original date in 2020 due to Covid-19. The second model, SL-95, is an Italian model which arrived in 1999. The oldest of the three, SL-79, came to Oslo in 1982. These were built in two batches. Both batches are quite similar and you won't notice any differences if you don't already know about them.

The first batch of 25 units has a rounded window in the front and some minor difference in interior design from the second batch. This batch is also referred as SL-79/I, which is my favorite tram model. The second batch, SL-79/II, got rid of the rounded edge on the front window and replaced it with a window with sharper edges as it would be easier and cheaper to replace these new windows if they would break.

As a result of my love for trams, my work is often quite oriented around public transport or the urban life.

During my stay in Hong Kong, I started focusing more on the transportations there such as the minibus, taxis and the MTR.
